Nick Hay Resigns as Chairman of

Westminster's Board of Selectmen

Monday, March 8, 2010

Nick Hay, Chairman of Westminster’s Board of Selectmen, has unfortunately had another issue with his operation of a motor vehicle, this time of a more serious nature. After crashing his truck in Jaffrey, NH on Friday, March 5th, Nick was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI). His truck was towed from the scene because it was not drivable. This is a considerably more serious offense than illegally affixing an inspection sticker. We’re happy no one was seriously injured in this crash, which is not always the case in accidents of this type.

At the start of tonight's Board of Selectmen's meeting, Nick resigned from the Board, effective immediately. He thanked the people of Westminster for the privilege of serving them, said that he was resigning for personal reasons, stated that he would not be talking with the press, requested he and his family be left alone, and then left the room. The whole process lasted only about three minutes.

On a personal note, we would also like to thank Nick for his service to Westminster. Being a Selectman doesn’t pay one nickel, it takes up a tremendous amount of personal time and energy; and as Nick found out, it also involves being in the spotlight much more than the average person. We were always happy to see Nick when we were out, and always enjoyed talking with him. He’s also still quite young, at least from our perspective, and maybe he’ll find that what is a major problem today will be a learning experience and more of a pothole, when viewed in the rearview mirror. Nick--Thanks for your service to the town, and best of luck in the future.

There is a new methodology for funding our school system being considered by Ashburnham. This may seem like a boring topic, but it isn't--there is a lot of tax money and the future health of our school system involved.
