Oakmont SADD and LUK Inc. Host
Community Night
The Oakmont Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Chapter will host a Community Night on Tuesday, March 16th, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at Oakmont Regional High School. The evening will begin with pizza and soft drinks in the cafeteria provided by substance abuse prevention grant funds administered by LUK, Inc.
An informational session will follow in the auditorium. Attorney M. Julie Lesure, of the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, will give a presentation for parents about social host laws, which assign penalties for adults who choose to serve alcohol to minors. The Mass. State Police will offer information about the state’s strict rules prohibiting young drivers from possessing or carrying alcohol. A substance abuse therapist from LUK, Inc. will also speak about the warning signs of addiction and ways to help young people struggling with addiction.
After the informational presentations, student and adult teams will square off in the gym for a dodge ball competition. Some members of each team will be required to play while wearing “drunk goggles” that simulate the effects of intoxication. Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams.
Students from Oakmont Regional High School, Overlook Middle School, and all parents of teenagers in Ashburnham and Westminster are encouraged to attend this informative and fun-filled community night.
