The highly competitive state art competition sponsored by the Scholastic Art and Writing National Awards is on view from February 1 through March 19, 2010 at the Massachusetts Transportation Building, 10 Park Plaza, Boston.
Judging of students' work was based on originality, craftsmanship and an emerging voice/style. The art works submitted by Mr. and Mrs. Barry's and Mr. Szalay's Visual Arts students were competing against more than sixty-five hundred pieces of individual art and almost 500 portfolios.
It was a very competitive year for all students in all categories. In the end, the jurors gave out 2,151 awards to students. The jurors awarded 425 Gold Key Awards, 140 Gold Key portfolio awards, 515 Silver Key Awards and 1071 Honorable Mentions. Gold Key Artwork demonstrates the highest levels of achievement in originality, technique and personal vision. The prestigious American Vision is awarded to the top five Gold Key winners. All Gold Key awards are forwarded to New York City for national adjudication.
