Star Trek

I know a lot of movie goers and critics loved the new Star Trek movie, (Trekkie or no Trekkie). Directed by J.J Abrams who is also Executive Producer of Lost seemed to put a lot of energy into this movie, but I for one thought the movie wasn’t that great. Don’t get me wrong, the special effects where outstanding and the acting was top notch, but the movie in whole had too many pot holes in it.
Let me give you some examples:
1) Kirk, (Chris Pine) being promoted to Captain after almost being kicked out of the academy and not even graduating yet! Captain Pike, (Bruce Greenwood) even promoting him to first officer was way too much of a stretch. I don't care how skilled you are, they are not going to promote someone who hasn't finished the academy yet to full Captain.
2) If Nero, (Eric Bana) had such a grudge for the Federation because it let Romulus get destroyed, once he went back in time, wouldn’t he have destroyed the Federation then and not wait 25 just floating in dead space and not doing anything but waiting? Also, wouldn't it have made sense for him to go to Romulus in the past and at least try to warn them of the supernova that destroyed his planet 129 years in the future? I would think if Nero was that heartbroken over the loss of his pregnant wife and all of his people, he would have tried to save them...
3) Kirk finding older Spock, (Leonard Nemoy) on the Ice planet was way too coincidental. What are the odds?
4) Young Spock, (Zachary Quinto) throws Kirk off the ship for mutiny? Doesn't the Enterprise have a brig? If someone gets arrested for mutiny in this time frame, they get court-martialed. You don’t maroon them on a life threatening Ice planet.
5) The Enterprise, the flagship of the Federation being entirely staffed by kids who haven't even graduated from the academy and sending them into a life threatening mission.
Compared to all of the other Star Trek movies, this one was pretty good, (besides the pot holes of course), but compare it to say like Star Trek The Wrath of Khan which I think is the best Star Trek movie of all time? I think it doesn’t hold a candle to it
