Movie Review: Paranormal Activity
reviewed by: Tim Tata

When I first saw the trailer for Paranormal Activity on TV and on the internet, like everyone else, I was excited to see it. After seeing it, I was very disappointed. The movie starts off extremely slow with the couple, (played by the annoying Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat); after finding out that Katie is being haunted by an evil demon, rent a video camera so they can get proof of the spirit. With each night of video taping, it seemed to drags on and on. I was thinking that is was going to get better but it did not. By night 20, I was ready to walk out of the theater. The trailer was very deceiving and all their scariest moments were in the trailer itself. I felt like I was just watching and waiting for those scary scenes to pop up.

Paranormal Activity was directed by first time director Oren Peli and was made for a mere $15,000. (Trust me when I say the movie was over budgeted). The idea of the movie seemed like a good one and I was expecting something much more intense, creepy, and disturbing, but all I got was a burning Ouija board, foot prints in flour, slamming doors, an arguing couple, a girl looking at her boyfriend in the bed thru an elapsed time camera, a burnt picture of a little girl, and an ending that is cheap and unfulfilling. You can tell a movie is pretty bad when you hear the audience in the theater rooting for the demon to kill these people.

In conclusion, the only really scary thing that happened after seeing Paranormal Activity was losing my $10 for the ticket.

I give this movie 2 out of 5 popcorns.
