Orphan, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, whom you may know from the 2005 movie, "House of Wax", has shown true thriller talent this time around. I realize Orphan has been out for some time in terms of movie life expectancy, but I thought there may be some Viner's still interested in renting the DVD. Although horror flicks are not my normal venue, this really was surprisingly entertaining. The story pulls you in to a very dysfunctional family with sorted pasts.
John and Kate (hmmm...sounds like some other famous couple...) Coleman, their son Daniel and their deaf daughter, Maxine live in the middle of nowhere, which just adds to the suspense. The couple decides to adopt Esther, a 9 year old girl from Russia hoping it will fill the void left by the death of one child a year earlier, among other issues too many to mention and at the risk of giving it all away.
Needless to say I thoroughly enjoyed this flick with no major names carrying it and "Orphan" has probably flown way below the radar of many who enjoy a suspenseful and mostly 'unpredictable' movie. Look out for the shocking twist at the end that is sure to leave all Viner’s in complete disbelief!
I give this movie 4 out of 5 popcorns.
