I consider Inglourious Basterds one of the best movies I have seen in quite some time. The acting was unbelievable (in a good way) and I never got bored with it. Very tense all throughout the movie. Do not let the opportunity to see this movie in theaters pass you by. If you don't like subtitles, though, you may not enjoy it as much as I did.
Directed by Quentin Tarantino who has my everlasting respect as a director ever since I saw "Pulp Fiction", and I cannot think of anyone else who could've done a better job with Inglorious Bastards.
The movie stars Brad Pitt as Lt. Aldo Raine whose main purpose is to recruit a small group of hand picked soldiers-turned-assassins (later dubbed the Basterds by the Germans). There main goal is to kill as many Nazi’s as possible. Among this group of effective warriors is the Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz (Til Schweiger), murderer of thirteen members of the Gestapo Police before being imprisoned, and rescued by Raine. Also we have Sgt. Donny Donowitz (Eli Roth) known as "The Bear Jew", for which his main weapon for killing Nazi’s is a baseball bat. Playing Bridget von Hammersmark, (a very popular German actress who's also a spy working against the Third Reich) is Diane Kruger.
What I liked most about this film is its consistency. The characters held true to their personalities. Quentin Tarantino weaves a great tail of how WWII should have gone. He captures the audience in the opening chapter, showing just who you will be dealing with throughout the movie. The scene is complex, pitting a strong, intelligent, SS General, (played by Christoph Waltz) against a rural French farmer protecting his friends and family. It is a brilliant character development that holds right up to the end of the movie.
If you haven’t had the chance to see this movie in the theaters, do yourself a favor and rent the DVD. Believe me, you will not be disappointed.
I give the movie 4 1/2 popcorns out of 5.
