Mini-Golf at Forbush Library
by Jen and Adam Shenk
A strange thing happened at Forbush Memorial Library in Westminster over the recent school vacation. It was Monday, a day that the library is usually closed. We were greeted by Oakmont Peer Leaders at the door to the Childrens' Room.
Westminster parent, Library Trustee and Oakmont Teacher Dana Altobelli had the idea of turning the library (temporarily) into a Mini Golf course about a year ago after reading an article in a teaching journal. "I looked it over and it didn't seem that hard to make, so I thought we should try it. I ran it by the other trustees and they were game."
One of the first signs that it wasn't business as usual at Forbush Library
Mulligan's Mini Golf in Sterling very generously donated most of the clubs. The event brought in about $300 which the organizers were happy with being it was the first time hosting such an event. The funds will go to support programming at the Forbush Memorial Library in general; not one particular project. Dana Altobelli's hope is that this will become a yearly fund raiser for the library and that it can be built upon and done in conjunction with other events.
