A Small World Story
Submitted by: Carolyn Abbott
My son Nick Seibert is stationed in Iraq. I'd love to share this story and its accompanying photo, as it's an amazing story. Sgt. Nick Seibert (23) has been stationed at a base 6 miles outside of Baghdad since June '08, working as a geospatial intelligence analyst (he watches satellite and other types of imagery to find the bad guys). His 34-year-old cousin, SFC Matt Davidson, a member of the Golden Knights international competition team and a paratrooper, deployed there in mid-November and is stationed at Baghdad Airport.
Occasionally Nick is asked to go to the airport either to drop someone off or pick someone up. On Dec. 5th, he made the trip to pick someone up, only to learn the incoming flight had been canceled. He went to the canteen to wait, and as he was standing around, he heard someone call his name. It was his cousin, whom he hadn't seen in 8 years! They had lunch together and caught up on their lives and current assignments, and even had the presence of mind to have a photo taken. Needless to say, everyone was amazed and thrilled that they somehow ended up at the same place at the same time... what are the odds of that happening? And since then, they haven't been able to coordinate their schedules to get together again. This is the first (and probably only) photo we have of Nick in Iraq (he's the young one on the right). He's due to return to MA sometime in late April/early May.
