The Angler Fish Market and Chowder Company, located in the center of Westminster in the Village Square Plaza, has quickly become one of Westminster’s favorite restaurants. The Angler has also become a destination restaurant for people from surrounding towns.

Jason and Christy Kimball founded The Angler in 2007, just as the economy was heading into the recession, but it has prospered nevertheless. Seafood and fishing has always been a part of Jason’s life—his father was a commercial fisherman from Falmouth, and from his father he learned the value and pleasure of serving the freshest fish possible. Every type of fish served or sold at The Angler is 100% fresh, and comes straight from the dock to Westminster through West Boylston Seafood and Ipswich Shellfish Company—it has never, ever been frozen, including not having been frozen at sea, a practice which is very common on fishing boats. That’s why the prices at the fish market are somewhat higher than can be found at other competitors. The Angler does not mark its fish prices up much at all, and it’s also why the fish at The Angler tastes so much better. Compare the quality and taste of Haddock at The Angler to Haddock anywhere else in the area, and you’ll immediately notice the difference. Shrimp is the only thing that has ever been frozen in The Angler Fish Market, and that is always frozen at sea.
The Angler also offers a wider array of fish for sale than many other markets, and it offers the best varieties of those fish, and they are always fresh. If you want Halibut, they have Pacific Halibut, never frozen. If you want shellfish, they sell Island Creek oysters, raised right here in Duxbury, MA, but sold around the world and considered some of the tastiest oysters found anywhere. You won’t find a better choice of fresh fish anywhere in our area than right here in the center of Westminster.
If you haven’t already eaten at The Angler, give it a try. Lunch is less crowded, but be prepared for a possible wait if you come right at dinner time in the evenings—The Angler is very popular, and the restaurant is “cozy”. However, as places to wait go, it’s one of the best. The bar is like “Cheers”—you’ll see lots of people you know, the place is always hopping, and the staff is very friendly. If you do have to wait for a table, it’s worth it.
And now The Angler will be even better, as Emily Brideau has returned as chef. Emily was an understudy chef at the White Barn Inn Restaurant in Kennebunkport, ME (a five star restaurant), and having just graduated from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Boston, is now back at The Angler in Westminster.
